Blog Announcement – Hiatus

Putting this down for anyone who might come to this blog and wonder where I’ve gone. Prior to today I’ve really pushed myself to write content regularly, giving myself daily goals to make sure I can keep up with the amount of content I wanted to put out. I made the decision to relieve myself of that obligation.

I started this blog at the very beginning of the year when I was unemployed and had not much else to do. I did get a job in February, but it was on a casual basis, and so I still had time and energy to dedicate to this personal project. In September, I finally took my official first step towards a dream I’ve had for a long time, and I returned to university at the age of 26 to finish a degree in Computer Science.

Things are going extremely well, and I’m ecstatic to be where I am. I managed to keep up with the blog through September and most of October. I’m at the point now, however, where I can’t commit enough time to do all the things I want to do. I can’t attend classes, study as much as I need to, meal plan and cook dinner every night, keep my apartment neat and tidy, develop my drawing skills, work on a programming portfolio, care for my mental, physical, and emotional health, and write for this blog everyday all at the same time.

As much as I’ve enjoyed writing this content, this blog is the most superfluous part of my life, and I need to shift my focus to developing myself for my career. Instead of being something fun to keep myself busy, it’s morphed into another pressure I’ve taken on, another stressor I don’t need. I’m not able to put in the time that this blog deserves, and I can’t maintain it in a way that makes me happy. So I’m going to stop, and I don’t know when I might pick it back up.

Sorry if this at all sounds dramatic. I just don’t want my readers, as few as I have, to wonder why I’ve stopped posting. I have a lot of drafts partially written, so I may end up getting a few finished but I won’t be working to get anything out on a regular basis. I hope to come back to this eventually, but I need to put it away for the moment.

Review – Kracie Ichikami Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner

And here we have another exercise in me not know what the crap I’m talking about: hair care reviews! Thanks for putting up with my self indulgence here.

I’ve been eyeing the Ichikami lines of hair products for I don’t know how long. I wanted to start out with one of their normal shampoo/conditioner pairs, and I had originally chosen the moisturizing line in the orange bottles. I changed my mind because my hair is very fine and gets weighed down extremely easily, so I switched to the volumizing/revitalizing line to make sure I didn’t end up with flat-looking hair.

Review – COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

My skin has always been really receptive to acids, despite having rosacea. Getting a daily BHA into my routine has been my most recent #skincaregoal, and for my first Asian BHA product, I purchased the one most people probably already know about: COSRX’s BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. It’s about as gentle as it gets for a BHA, which was important to me because I prefer using weaker acids on a daily basis rather than stronger ones a couple of times a week.

Review – COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence

First treatment essences are products that typically contain some form of yeast (or other) ferment, and they are meant to be applied prior to any toners or other essences. They are usually known for their ability to reduce redness and improve skin health and function. As a rosacea sufferer, anything that can possibly reduce redness is going to be an attractive option.

My first product in this category was the Nature Republic Saccharomyces The First Treatment Essence. I really enjoyed that product, but it was unfortunately discontinued and I was put on a mission to find a replacement. The COSRX Whitening Power Essence has been my first attempt.

Review – Amlactin Triple Action Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy Foot Cream

This was another product that I hadn’t initially planned on buying. I had selected a different foot cream when I placed a big order from Korea and then immediately received notice that the cream I wanted was out of stock. I wanted to find a substitute quickly (and didn’t want it to take 5 months to arrive (that’s not an exaggeration, I’ve had products take 5 months to arrive)), so I went to Amazon to see what I could find. Being not all that interested in researching foot creams in the first place, I only did a cursory bit of browsing before I came upon a foot cream by AmLactin.

The only thing I’ve known about this brand is that they are one of the few that produce body products with AHAs in them. This foot cream is one of them. I favor using peels instead of something like a pumice stone on my feet, so I thought an AHA foot lotion would be a fantastic way to keep my feet in shape in between those intense biannual peels.

Review – Illi Total Aging Care Smoothing Lotion

I have a hard time with forcing myself to use body lotion. It’s easily my least favorite part of my routine because I find it really, really boring. I know it only takes a couple of minutes, but it feels like forever, and the lotiony feeling afterwards bothers me a lot more than it does on my face or my hands. So a body lotion has to do more than just moisturize in order for me to get excited about it. It needs to sink in quickly with as little dry-down time as possible, and it should smell amazing. It’ll be a painful chore to use up otherwise. Illi’s Total Aging Care Smoothing Lotion has been decent so far, and has probably come the closest to being a body lotion I maybe sort of enjoy using.

Review – Purebess Galactomyces 80 Eye Cream

When it comes to eye creams, I’m at a loss for what to look for. For a long time, they were never on my radar at all. I think the number one complaint people have with their eye area is dark circles, but a topical product is pretty dang limited in what it can do to fix those. A lot of eye products are also targeted towards anti-aging: reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing puffiness and bags, etc. I’m not too concerned about focused anti-aging on my undereye area just yet, so what’s left? What am I treating exactly?

The conclusion I came to is that I just need something moisturizing enough to keep the skin around my eyes plumped and hydrated, yet light enough to not cause problems like milia in the delicate undereye skin. I decided upon the Purebess Galactomyces 80 Eye Cream as a starting point because it gets very well reviewed and it’s almost criminally cheap (something highly unusual when discussing eye creams).
